ANNUAL CELEBRATION CUBAN REVOLUTION NEW YORK CITY

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7uLwAZF8ow

July 26 is the national holiday of revolutionary Cuba. On that day sixty-one years ago in 1953, Fidel Castro and Abel Santamaria led an armed assault of over 100 revolutionary, patriotic youth on the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba against the US-backed military dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. Although the attack was a military failure, the heroism, political example, and subsequent conduct of the revolutionary combatants soon elevated them into the political leadership – organized into the July 26th Movement – of the triumphant Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959.

Sixty-one years later, revolutionary Cuba remains a beacon for all who fight worldwide for the interests of working people against the crisis-ridden capitalist world order of intensifying exploitation and oppression. Cuba today is also fighting to advance and modernize its economy and raise the productivity and efficiency of its industry and agriculture even as it continues to resist Washington’s unrelenting efforts to subvert and overturn the Cuban Revolution and its sovereign socialist government. This years annual Celebration will focus its short spoken program on these important questions with a presentation by a leading representative of the Cuban Mission to the United Nations, including Q&A. We will also show our solidarity with the ongoing struggle to free the remaining Cuban Five revolutionaries and report on plans for upcoming major solidarity actions in the New York – New Jersey area. Then we will Celebrate with live music, dancing with DJ Carlito, lots of food and drink, and a chance to meet and greet old friends and new.
